Ever since we were kids, merchandise has been the key thing that has allowed us to grow up with dreams, aspirations, or just something to do. Many females and males today still play with Barbie Dolls. But, there is a huge downfall to the Barbie companies today. Girls continually view the “Barbie” as a role model and view their bodies as the “body to be”. When it comes to eating disorders “approximately 90-95% of anorexia nervosa sufferers are girls and women” and more shockingly: “Anorexia nervosa typically appears in early to mid-adolescence.” These statistics prove that young girls are extremely vulnerable to the messages given to them as young girls. If we bombard them with images of size 0 models or disproportioned dolls then what message are we sending to girls today?
Real Beauty was created to help PROMOTE the REAL body of young girls today. Fit to match the REAL bodies of girls we want every person who buys our doll to see the Real Beauty in them. We have been in business for over 5 years and we know how to make a young girl feel beautiful.
Today the question Real Beauty asks is: Do toys like Barbie and the Bratz dolls promote an unhealthy image of beauty? Should we look at toys as role models?
